Nick Bendel, the fifth person I\u2019ve had lunch with, is one of the most incredible people I\u2019ve ever met, and was the original inspiration for the CoffeeConnect initiative, with his similar quest to have lunch with 500 strangers. I was the 518th person he met. While the gap of 513 lunches may seem huge on paper, in person, it was just the opposite. He was incredibly warm, generous and personable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nick runs a very successful copywriting firm, Hunter & Scribe, drawing on years of experience helping financial and property businesses solve problems with writing and articulation. He\u2019s the sort of writer who seems less interested in showing off his vocabulary and more interested in making sure you walk away feeling like you\u2019ve been heard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From the start of our chat, I was immediately struck by how effortless he made everything feel. There\u2019s a calmness to Nick that disarms you. You sit down expecting a conversation about business and instead find yourself talking like you\u2019ve known him for years. It\u2019s not a technique. It\u2019s just who he is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nick also spoke about his current training to become a public speaker, specifically on the concept of social courage. It\u2019s a topic that makes perfect sense once you\u2019ve spent even ten minutes with him. He\u2019s drawn to the moments where people freeze up, the moments they fear. The hard conversation with a colleague, the truth that needs telling at a family dinner, the opinion that feels too risky to voice. His goal is to stand in front of rooms and help people find the nerve to speak anyway. And you believe he can do it, because he\u2019s already doing it in every conversation he has. He makes bravery feel less like a leap and more like a small, steady step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I\u2019m sure Nick\u2019s path wasn\u2019t a straight line, but his instinct for connection is unmistakable. He carries a quiet self-possession that comes from genuinely liking people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The right words matter, but the right presence matters more. Nick reminded me that before anyone can be brave on a stage or clever on a page, they first need to feel like someone is actually listening. He makes you feel that way without even trying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
